ReplyDeleteChecking facts, the top federal marginal tax rate in the U.S. is 37% and the state of California does not tax lottery winnings and there is no city income tax in Altadena, so the winner of $2.03 billion would keep $1.279 billion after taxes.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was odd that he would be taxed at a 75% rate. I chalked it up to the addition of state tax. I was under the mistaken impression that lottery winnings were federally taxed at 50% and figured state tax could easily add another 25%. Thanks for clearing that up. I felt so bad for the poor guy thinking he was rich and all. 😢 Is this the largest win in lotto history? Seems like it. He could get a lot of satisfaction solving people's problems on gofundme.
