I have no idea what is making me feel as though I am in a daze, maybe the fever or my blonde hair.

Its a turtle, not a tortoise. Tortoises are exclusively land animals, no water except to drink or sometimes sit in. They sink like rocks, in my experience, I had to rescue mine from a swimming pool once. Turtles like water, terrapins can do both.
